The Met Gala 2014

This year’s Met Gala was nothing short of over-the-top and dramatic, as the biggest night in fashion was abundant with dresses by leading designers such as Prada and Gucci and the celebrities who displayed them, including Beyoncé and the Olsen twins. While there were some mishaps and malfunctions, the striking gowns and eye-catching designs were plentiful. Here’s the breakdown of our top 5 favorite looks:

1. Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa

The Met Gala is all about high fashion and artistry, and Karina Kurkova definitely took that to the next level. Her slicked back hair and minimal jewelry leave room for the dress to take center stage, and the flower design on the gown is evident without being seeming too overwhelming. This dress is what the Gala is all about.

4. Emma Stone in Thakoon

Emma Stone has been totally on point during her promotion for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so you’d expect her to come out and kill it at the Met Gala. Now, while this ensemble isn’t anything show stopping, I love how she went with the color-blocking trend, featuring a crop top paired with a high-waisted slit skirt, and braided hair that gives a casual feel without being too informal. Elegant yet understated.

3. Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung

Hailee Steinfeld is just seventeen, but she looks so grown up and elegant in this stunning black and white gown. I love how she came out with absolutely no accessories to give full attention to her dress. Totally age appropriate, and the pockets are a bonus!

2. Blake Lively in Gucci

If anybody knows how to do Hollywood glamour, it’s Blake Lively. From the long train to the deep cut, this dress is flawless. The metallic is just the right shade without washing her out, and the minimal jewelry adds the perfect pop of color. And lets not forget about those gorgeous blonde curls.

1. Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta

There are no words to describe Sarah Jessica Parker’s ball gown at the Met Gala other than pure perfection. The hair, the gloves, the jewels, the colors, the print, the signature, this dress is everything the Met Gala embodies and more. Well done, SJP. Carrie Bradshaw would be so proud.
